"Understanding global issues and their context"

Our basic goal is to show the Slovak public a true picture of the global challenges facing the world today. We also try to promote tolerance, empathy, respect for human rights, and solidarity with those in peril.

Global education programmes help teachers and pupils in all kinds of schools to gain a basic understanding of the challenges facing developing countries, and other global issues, to explore the causes and effects of these global problems, and identify opportunities for individual and collective action.

Global education has become an increasingly important part of PIPA's work since 2004. Our work in schools also tries to introduce new techniques and methods of education, and contribute to the general modernisation of the Slovak education system. We offer methodical toolkits and documentary films for pedagogues and for students, who organize educational events in their schools and in their regions. Our methodical toolkits are based on principal of interactive, innovative and alternative methods which lead students to critical thinking and active involvement.

Beside our work in schools, we inform the general public in Slovakia about the situation in various countries of the world through public discussions, documentary film showings, conferences and other cultural-educational events. Our major public event is the annual One World documentary film festival, in Bratislava and in regional towns.
